MEPs vote to class incineration as "recovery"

MEPs have backed proposals to class incineration as "recovery" under the Revised Waste Framework Directive from its second reading in the European Parliament. Members were divided over whether incineration should be regarded as a "disposal" or a "recovery" operation, but backed the Commission and Council position that it should be categorised as recovery, provided they met a certain energy standard, set through a formula.
