Play is Learning
At St Gabriels we promote learning through play. We feel it is important for children of all ages to be encouraged to explore and develop their own thinking. Developing an inquisitive mind will in turn enable children to become problem solvers to discover and learn at their own pace.
Activities within the nursery are planned with this in mind, using both the Birth to Three Matters framework and the Foundation stage curriculum.
Every area is well equipped to support different stages of development. From the youngest babies enjoying sensory and tactile activities, to the oldest children using computers and imaginary play equipment. Outings and visits are also used to enhance the children’s learning. These include walks through the local community and along into the many parks which surround the nursery. Whilst specific trips or events such as inviting guests into nursery are organised to coincide with the topic /theme we also are regular visitors to the library and the theatre to see the current performances.
